Do It Properly

by Evan

If you’re going to practice then make sure you do it properly. This goes for practice swings. I’m always surprised at why golfers rehearse the wrong thing. Here’s some of the common mistakes golfers make.

  • Hitting the ground with your driver – you should never ever hit the ground with a practice swing with your driver.
  • Taking a big swing on a practice putt when you’ve only got a short putt (the opposite also applies)
  • Making an abbreviated or different swing to the actual shot you’re facing – I see this all of the time and it makes no sense.

If you’re going to take a practice stroke then you should try and replicate the upcoming shot. Anything else is not going to help you. If this seems like too much trouble, then forget about rehearsing the stroke. Take a peek at your target and then hit the bloody ball. There’s not much else you can do.
