Internet trouble and golf

Had all sorts of trouble getting decent Internet connection here on the Sunshine Coast.

Was told we could get it.
Told we couldn’t get it.
Told wireless would work.
Wireless didn’t work very well. Round and round we go.

Found out this is life on the Sunshine Coast, things are a bit slow here and they certainly don’t tell you that in the brochure (or about the very wet weather).

The latest idea was to install a booster antenna for the little wireless device. This was going to be the answer to my prayers and let me work with a few less interruptions. The guy turned up last week and delivered more bad news.

The antenna signal needed to get to 105 (not sure what they were measuring) but we came in at 92. We fell just short so the technician packed his bag and was outta here. Still no decent Internet and I’m back to square one. I’d personally like to thank Testra for their wonderful service and being such a pleasure to deal with. NOT. If you think golf is a frustrating sport, dealing with a telecommunication company certainly takes the cake.

This antenna issue reminded me of how many of us approach golf. The technician was bound by some stupid rule and because he’s trained to be inflexible, he didn’t give things a try. How annoying, even a little boost in signal would have made things so much better. Many golfers don’t try because they’re not guaranteed success or they’re afraid that they won’t see any improvement so they do nothing. They play safe and miss out on any gain, no matter how small.

It’s a shame really. There are no guarantees but playing safe is the worst thing you can do. There’s a lost opportunity to learn something and move forward. Doing nothing can feel safe but it hurts you in the long run. If you’re expecting everything you try to be “perfect” then you’ll always be disappointed. The road to success is littered with lots of little improvements and a few wrong turns – they key is to keep moving. Doing nothing doesn’t help. It hurts.

Cam: give Westnet a call. They may be able to help. They are a local company. I don’t use them, but a number of friends have said they provided good solutions to their problems.

One should not be afraid to look stupid or get embarrassed by experimenting, as mistakes are the guideposts to sucess.
