The golf blog has been going under some changes. Thought it would be a good idea to explain my ideas and answer some of the questions that have been asked more than once. Here goes.

Why have you turned this into a Members Only blog?

I really wanted a way to provide more detailed content to those interested. The more detailed the information the more time it takes. I figured that a small fee would help contribute to the cost. But …

There are still over 250 free blog posts. These golf instruction lessons cover a wide variety of topics on golf improvement and learning. The best way to find them is to use the search or category function on the right. So if you don’t want to pay you can still access some really good lessons for free.

What’s the main benefit of getting a membership?

You get more instruction on WHAT to do. There’s more videos that help the learning process. You also get better access to me. While I will always do my best to answer ALL emails, I will now prioritise those who are members of The Golf Tribe.

My golf swing needs improving – can you help?

I have been getting this one quite a bit. I’m now working on putting my golf swing improvement system into writing. This is something that I’ve always wanted to do – learning to improve your golf swing naturally is by far the best way to see major improvement. This info will be part of the Golf Tribe and will contain information including;

• How to practice correctly
• How to make swing changes
• The things you actually need to do in your swing – I will remove all of the fluff
• A roadmap and guide – more detailed instruction on planning and integrating swing changes
• Making all changes a part of your natural game
• Taking swing changes to the golf course

Are you now saying that Automatic Golf is not important?

Not at all. You should always automate your golf game. This is the most important skill for playing your best golf.

How often will new content be added?

I am trying to add one ripper lesson per week. There will always be free blog posts – these may be less frequent, but I will still be doing them. Ripper blogs are those with extra content and deeper explanations.

Cameron, can I help in any way?

Yes. If you join the Golf Tribe that would be great. The more members the better the content.

If you have joined then I ask you to participate by leaving comments and asking questions. The Golf Tribe works best when there is banter back and forwards. Often I have found that this communication provides some of the best instruction.

Is there anything new I can look forward to?

I am starting a golf swing review service. If you are part of The Golf Tribe you can send me a video of your golf swing – I’m particularly interested in seeing you perform on the golf course. I will then review your action in great detail. I’m hoping to include this review for all to see – but if you’re not comfortable then it will be for your eyes only.

Is your swing trainer worth it?

The Beta Golf Swing Trainer is a beauty. And I’m not just saying that It really helps you learn a better swing without bogging you down with too much technical golf instruction. It took me years to come up with the right formula, but it is now spot on.

If you want something that forces you to learn a better swing and more importantly teaches you a correct impact position, then the swing trainer is what you need.

Why do you have two golf websites?

Good question. Betagolf.com is generally the starting point – it hosts all of the free golf instruction videos and the introduction to automatic golf. While this blog is for those ready to step it up and take their learning further.

Do you give private golf lessons

Yes. But these are done in a way that I know works – and they will be different from anything that you’ve experienced in the past. Basically I do lessons my way – I don’t prescribe to traditional methods. These private golf lessons are reserved for those serious about learning about automatic golf. I have put together a page explaining all the details here.

Can I play golf with you?

I have been getting this asked more and more. I am not against the idea but I do have serious limits on my time. Also, a social round of golf is not a golf lesson. If you’re looking for a lesson that is conducted on the golf course see above. Contact me to discuss what you have in mind.

What about holding a golf seminar?

This is something I’m toying with. I have looked into having a one-day seminar in Melbourne and Brisbane. Let me know if you’re keen or if you can help with organisation.

Hi guys. Welcome to my new blog. It has been a few months in the making but it has been worth the effort. The big difference is the domain name. www.cameronsgolfblog.com is out and www.cameronstrachan.com is in. You can still find all of the original content here.

PS I’ll still be writing regularly about improving your game and learning about the magic of automatic golf.

Each new student receives my three-round challenge. This requires them to implement automatic golf for the duration of 3 rounds.

They can’t think about their swing.

They’re not allowed to worry about their score.

They must play in a free flowing and instinctive manner.

And they must do this for a minimum of three rounds.

Why?

Because it is a test. If they can stick to it they’ll see results. Something remarkable will happen:

• They’ll hit the best shot of their life.
• They’ll play an awesome stretch of golf.
• The light will go on and they’ll experience better golf by trying less.
• They’ll have fun.

It rarely fails. But it does require the first and uncomfortable step to be taken. And I think many don’t take the step. They’re hoping for an instant cure. Something that is going to feel less uncomfortable. Something a bit more exciting. Something perhaps they’ve read in a golf magazine…

So they don’t dive in. They don’t get dirty so they miss out on remarkable.

Golf improvement is not an instant fix. It takes commitment and discipline. Half the battle is turning up and giving things a go.

No extraordinary talent required.

If your game is not where it should be try my three-round challenge. Stick to it, make mistakes but really give it a fair go. From here improvement becomes much easier. I promise

I‘m getting asked more often about playing consistent golf. Lukey, a long time reader, called today and was concerned his game is not has consistent as he would like. He got me thinking and here’s my take on the subject.

Consistent golf is not possible if you try and replicate the perfect swing. Too many of us analyse and try and make copies of our good shots – it seems like the right thing to do, but often leads in failure.

Consistent golf requires that you stop trying to be perfect. You must break free from what you think is the right thing to do and follow your instincts. Here are three steps that will help you find a more consistent golf game.

1. Swing in a way that feels good to you. This is the time to do what YOU really want to do, not the advice of some coach, text book or some theory that is lodged deep in your mind.
2. Stop analysing. This means the good and the bad. If you can reach the 18th green without thinking about your swing you’ve done well. Try it. It’s a lot of fun.
3. Break free. Do something different. Break a rule or two. If your game is not consistent now then you’ve got to do something differently to see results. This step is breaking the shackles and allowing you to explore what is possible.

The paradox of golf is that you can’t play consistently by trying to do so. You have to give up some control to find it. This is the hardest step in the learning process. Children have no problem with it – as adults we feel the need to control, analyse, take our time, try really hard and be perfect.

If you want to find a consistent game it will require a different mindset. Let go, stop trying so hard and definitely no carbon copies allowed. Let each swing go where it wants to go. It’s the only way.

Here are my four golfing commandments. These are my imperatives if you want to play your best golf consistently, keep improving and have more fun.

Why four? I could list more but think four gives much more clarity.

Here they are:

• Break free and do something different – like burn the club you’ve never been able to hit and improve your putting game.
• Learn to trust – stop worrying, you have all the skill and talent to be a much better golfer.
• Play naturally – forget trying to be like Tiger. Play your natural game and you’ll be just fine.
• Play more and practise less – playing is where the fun is. It is also where it counts most.

Simple. Nothing more than that.

I’ve got some good news. My ideas have attracted the interest of a business and marketing expert. These guys have teamed together and helping me improve the message and the products. But I need your help.

Sometimes I think the rules of golf are too rigid. Padraig Harrington had a smallish birdie putt on 15 this morning. It was windy and the greens at Augusta are quick. The ball moved. Penalty.

There are a few problems with this.

1. It held up play – it took about 5 minutes or so to get a ruling.
2. It seems unfair. He didn’t do anything wrong – he was only trying to address the ball and play the game.

The game is hard enough without having to incur penalties for this type of thing. The commentators seemed reluctant to highlight the issue – only claiming it was “bad luck”.

I think there needs to be a common sense rule in this situation. Surely a golfer should only be penalised if he makes a “fair” pass at the ball? Getting into your set-up position is not hitting the ball. The non golfers in the room with me couldn’t believe he got penalised for this. Think it’s time for a rule change, it seems like an outdated and harsh rule to me.
