Hi Artful Golfer,

Imagine if you'd done the opposite? Tried to get them to swing correctly and worry about their swing.

I doubt they would have had as much fun and they probably wouldn't want to play for another 21 years! Hopefully you'll be able to enjoy many more of these outings.

Well done!

Great story! Last weekend, I took my wife and kids (now 21 and 22) to a local 9-hole course. My daughter told us she wanted to come home from college for the weekend to celebrate her 21st birthday (Valentine's Day) and play golf for the first time. Her boyfriend at school had just started playing. My wife has played twice before, once when she was pregnant with my son (22 years ago) and once when she was pregnant with my daughter (21 years ago). My son has played about 5 rounds. We arrived at the course without my wife or daughter ever having swung a club (in 21 years anyway). I had them play the entire round with a 7-iron. I told them to just hit the ball and when they got close to the green to just swing softer. They loved it and even got the ball up in the air a few times ;) My wife even hit the ball over a lake on one hole. My son is a natural. Fun day.
